Adopted Goldens

Featured below are a few of the many Goldens that have been adopted into loving homes.

Hi, I'm Buddy Buddy:
is a 5 1/2 year old male. He loves to be petted and will "talk" to you for more attention. He loves to be around people, which he hopes means he may get more attention. He knows quite a few basic commands and is housebroken. We are working on him loosing some weight which hopefully won't take long since he currently has 3 children and 2 other goldens in his foster home to play with. This sweet boy will make a wonderful companion to a family who is looking for a well-behaved dog.

Hi, I'm Ruby Ruby:
is a gorgeous 8 month old female Golden. She is crate trained and housebroken. Ruby is good with children and with other dogs. She would love to be able to run free in a fenced yard. Ruby just arrived, so more information will be available as we get to know her better!

added 5/12/2008

Hi, I'm Mason Mason:
is an 8-1/2 month old blond male. He is very athletic and loves to chase balls and play frisbee. He is crate trained and mostly housebroken--just an occasional accident if he gets too busy playing. He rides well in the car, and he gets along with other dogs. Mason is timid around men until he gets to know them. He hasn't had a lot of socialization and needs to go on walks in the neighborhood and on outings to local parks, pet stores, and the vet. Mason would do best in a home with older children, as he can be a bit too rowdy around young children. This sweet boy is sure to steal your heart!

  Toby:

He especially likes to lay in your lap and get petted. He loves to play with other dogs and likes stuffed toys. Toby has a lot of energy and has had some obedience training. He knows sit, leave it, here, and kennel.

Hi, I'm Kiera Hi, I'm Kiera, I love to play with my golden brother Hi, I'm Kiera I can see you!! I've been playing in the mud. See the mud on my nose?
  Kiera:
Kiera is the last puppy from Shadow's litter available for adoption. She is an absolutely adorable puppy who thinks she should always have her way. She loves to play with her toys, her people, and her golden brothers. She needs a good home with older kids or no kids. She has a bit of a temper but its easily controlled, and as she gets older consistent training will be important. Kiera weighs 15.5 pounds. In the second picture, Amos, adopted by his foster family 2+ years ago, does a good job of playing the part of this puppy's father figure. Amos is not available. Kiera is a puppy, so she is not technically housebroken, but she has not had an accident in her foster home since arriving there on May 4th. She is learning to love/hate her crate. When she's tired she will go in easily and disappear into dreamland immediately. But when she wants out or wants to play with the other dogs or people, she is adept at letting the whole world know. On the other hand, she's good at sleeping through the night too.

updated pictures: 5/17/2008 Kiera was adopted on 5/28/08

PLEASE

On average, each dog that GGRR handles, costs the organization $973. The puppies were much more expensive. Adoption fees of $275 only cover a fraction of the cost. The rest comes strictly from donations.
Bottle feeding these pups Esbilac formula, plus medical evaluations, shots, etc., cost GGRR more than $100 each day. Further, the pups' Mom, Shadow, is heartworm positive, and has started heartworm treatment. Note: According to the vets' who are following the puppies progress, there is zero percent chance that the mother's heartworms can be transferred to the puppies.

Shadow & her pups Shadow:
was a stray that showed up at a home in rural Illinois. She spent three weeks on her property while the home owner attempted to locate her family. After not being able to locate her family GGRR was called. Two GGRR members made three trips to the home in Illinois trying to catch Shadow. Finally on the third try we were successful. After just five hours in her foster home she started giving birth and several hours later she had 12 puppies. We will post more photos and continue to update their progress.
added 3/6/2008

Update (5/5/08): All of the puppies have been adopted into loving homes except for Kiera. Aidan has a new name, he's now known as Sunny or Sunshine. Kiera has moved into her foster home with this website's webmaster. Kiera is being evaluated and will be available for adoption soon. And GGRR's president who has been fostering all nine of the puppies and their Mom, Shadow, has decided to keep Shadow for herself. Shadow tested positive for heartworms and is currently undergoing treatment. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Shadow and her pups Mom & Pups
Update (3/9/08): 3 female puppies didn't survive the first 24 hours after birth. The remaining 9 puppies, 6 females and 3 males, are doing very well. The foster Mom is supplementing Shadow's nursing efforts by bottle feeding the smaller, more at risk, puppies.

Hi, I'm Spencer Spencer:
is a male Golden, who is 6-1/2 years young. He is a typical, happy-go-lucky Golden who is great with children, other dogs, and cats. He loves car rides, water, fetching tennis balls, going for walks, and being petted. One of his favorite tricks is balancing a biscuit on his nose, and when given the command, will toss it up it the air, catch it, and eat it. Unfortunately, Spencer has had a few too many extra treats and needs to shed about 20 lbs! His adoptive family will need to monitor his food and give him plenty of exercise. Spencer will make a wonderful addition to any family.

Finn successfully completed his heartworm treatment. He has been adopted by his foster mom. He will have a great life.

Hi, I'm Sasha Hi, I'm Sunny
  Sasha:
Sasha (l) and Sunny (r) were found freezing, huddled together in a vain attempt to stay warm, and completely covered with ice, in a ditch beside a country road, during an ice storm. Sasha (left) is a great dog who gets along great with dogs and cats. He is housetrained and will go in his crate with a little encouragment. His foster mom is working on teaching him what toys are his and what is off limits as he is still chewing on things. He actually is very mild mannered for a one yr old. He loves to play fetch and will bring the balls back to you and drop them everytime. He would love to find his forever home that has room for his brother Sunny also. Sunny (right) is a one yr old male Golden Retriever. He is medium energy and house-trained and we are working on crate training him. He is an absolutely sweet dog who loves to be close to you. He loves the other dogs and cats in his foster home. He can't decide which he loves more, playing fetch or wrestling with Sasha or Rain, the resident dog. He would love to spend the rest of his life with his brother Sasha.

Hi, I'm Oliver Oliver:
is a 3-4 yr. old male Golden Retriever. He is on the small side weighing about 60 lbs. He was found as a stray and surrendered to GGRR, so we don't know his history. He is a wonderful dog. He was quite shy when he first went to his foster home, but he is coming out of his shell very well. He is great with the dogs and cats in his foster home. Oliver seems to have had some obedience training as he is well behaved, knowing basic commands and housebroken. If your looking for a dog to play fetch with, here he is. He always has a tennis ball in his mouth and once you get him to give it up, he loves to run after it. He will make a great addition to a new home.

She would love to be adopted by an active family with older children and perhaps another dog as a playmate. She is a bit too energetic for preschool children. is believed to be approximately 8 years old. He was a stray and had to be totally shaved to get rid of the mats and ticks that covered him. He is also being treated for heartworm disease. Meet (left to right, Honey, Fawn, & Hannah. These three, 5-month-old, sisters arrived at Gateway Golden Retriever Rescue on Sunday, July 15th, 2007. Although they have shared a home with their brother for the past 5 months, today is the day they went to separate foster homes to wait for their forever homes. Their brother was adopted prior to their arrival at GGRR. All three are up-to-date on their shots, and have been spayed. Check out the details below on each pup.
8/15/07: Honey & Hannah have found their forever homes.
Left to right, Honey, Fawn, Hannah
Hi, I'm Fawn Fawn:
Fawn is a 35lb, extremely shy, medium colored golden. She is crate-trained. Due to her early life, she appears to be learning everything from proper manners to going up and down stairs, from scratch. She gets along great with the other goldens in her foster home, and is learning that its not right to pee in the house. Update: Fawn is a real sweetheart. She is still a shy puppy, but once she's in a comfortable environment, she's a little social butterfly. She loves to play in the sprinkler, as evidenced by the video, below, and she loves her little kiddie pool, especially in this hot weather. Fawn's ideal home would include at least one other dog as a partner in crime and playmate, no kids, or older kids, and somebody whose schedule is flexible enough to let her out of her kennel to potty in the middle of the day. She will reward the right family with a lot of love and affection!

Update: Fawn has found her new home!! She will be going to her new home this week (9/10/07). She will be loved and adored and have a 1 and a half year old golden sister to get into trouble with. Her new name will be Lily.

He loves to run and chase squirrels, squeaky toys and anything else that will play with him! He walks very well on a leash and is good with kids. This well-behaved boy has been an only dog his entire life, but warms up quickly to other dogs. He is a 75 lb. red colored golden and is current on all of his shots. He is a loveable guy who just wants a lot of attention!

Hi, I'm Riley's son, Buddy Buddy:
is Riley's son and is also up for adoption. It would be great if father and son could be placed together. If separated, each of them would be happy in a home with another dog for a playmate. Buddy is 6 years old and more energetic than his father. Buddy loves any type of ball and will seldom be found without one hanging out of his mouth. Buddy is heartworm disease positive and will not be available for adoption until after his treatment.

added 6/22/2007

Hannah is a lovable 5 month old puppy. She is crate trained and great with both people and other dogs. She is a mellow, well-behaved girl for a dog of her age. Hannah is working on being housebroken and learning a few basic commands. This playful girl can turn any object she finds into a great toy that will amuse her for quite awhile!

added 7/15/2007

Hi, I'm Honey Honey:
Honey is a 5 month old female Golden Retriever. She is petite and probably won't be more than 40 - 45 lbs. when full grown. She loves the dogs and cats in her foster home, although the cats don't exactly love her. She loves balls, stuffed animals and lots of water. Her foster mom is working on housetraining and basic obedience with her. She is a sweetheart just waiting for her forever home.

Hi, I'm Tyson Tyson:
Tyson is a 7month old male Golden Retriever. He is housetrained, knows basic commands, and will learn anything that you teach him rather quickly. He gets along great with dogs and cats. He loves to play fetch and will bring the ball back to you every time. He is crate trained, but not crated in his foster home. He is very well mannered for a puppy. He still has some puppy energy, so he shouldn't be placed in a home with small children because he might knock them down. He is an absolutely sweet guy looking for his forever home.

Hi, I'm Lexus Lexus:
I know, I know, I don't look like a Golden Retriever but my mother was one and obviously my father was a yellow Labrador. I'm 5 years old and was really upset to leave my 7 year old sister and my human family. I have been with my foster family for 2 weeks now and I'm fitting in just fine with the other 3 dogs here. "Mom" has put me on a diet because I'm a little overweight but that doesn't stop me from running with my foster brother in the backyard chasing away the rabbits and squirrels! I love hanging out in the yard and love to roll around in the grass. I like to bring the stuffed toys from the house and toss them around in the air. I was taught not to get on furniture and the one time "mom" caught me on the couch all she had to say was "down" and I was off there in a flash! (I was just testing her) I ride really well in a car; in fact, I just lie down in the back seat and watch everything out the window. When on a leash I pull too hard sometimes and start choking; I think I need more practice. I'm good around children; not sure about cats. Mom says I'm a counter surfer. That's probably because she found me eating frozen tater tots off the pan before she could cook them. Now she's careful not to leave food on the counter. She says I'm just helping her keep the kitchen neat! I would like to live with other dogs but if I can't I'm just hoping for a loving family.

Hi, I'm Charley Charley:
Charley is a 4 year old male. He is housebroken, crate trained, good with children, and good with other dogs. He is a real mama's boy and loves to follow her wherever she goes. However, with 3 preschool children and a business to run, Charley's family just can't give him the love and attention he deserves. He needs to shed about 10 lbs. (don't we all!) which will be no problem with daily exercise and the proper amount of a quality food. This sweet boy is medium energy and will make a great companion for the lucky family chosen to adopt him

added 7/2/2007

Hi, I'm Jake Jake:
Jake is 14 months old and semi active, LOL. I found him to be very interested in following orders rather than leading. He is trained for an electronic fence. While doing his "visit" I taught him the "leave it" command in a few minutes. This young dog is very eager to learn. He is potty trained, loves to ride in cars and is neutered. Jake is currently in manner school!

Hi, I'm Buck Buck:
A good looking 16mth old male who is currently working on some dominance issues. he likes toys and petting. He will do best in a home who has had dogs previously and willing to work on his manners. With a little effort he will make a great addition to his new home.

After a long wait, Buck (shown on the right) finally found the family of his dreams! He already adores his new mom and dad. Buck now has a Golden sister named JoJo (shown on the left), who is delighted to have a friend to chase balls with her. Buck is also looking forward to introducing himself to the two cats who live next door. We hope the cats agree with Buck's plans!

Please visit our Special Needs page for more pictures and information about Buck.

Hi, I'm Koby Colby:
is a 5 month old male Golden Retriever. He gets along great with the other dogs and cats in his foster home. He loves to wrestle with his canine brothers. His foster mom is working on housetraining and basic obedience with him. He loves kids but is pretty active so would be best in a home with older kids. He is crate trained. 1) My name is Colby, not Koby as my bio used to say. 2) I was neutered recently. 3) I have never had an accident in my foster home. 4) I'm a bit bigger now. I weighed 54 pounds on April 11th.

added 3/13/2007

I'm Wyatt Wyatt:
is a 3 yr old male Golden Retriever. He is small, weighing about 50 lbs. He is housetrained and crate trained, although he doesn't use his crate anymore. He loves cats. He gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home. Wyatt didn't know how to be a dog when he came to his foster home, but his canine brothers are working on teaching him. He still can be a little shy in new situations. He loves attention, playing fetch and chewing on nylabones. There is not a sweeter dog around.
