Biography: Mac is one of the little ones who came in as a litter. He is well socialized by his foster family, and definitely enjoys other dogs. 9/9/11 Mac is adjusting well to his foster home and loves playing with his Foster brother Billy. Biography: This sweet girl loves to be with humans especially if they play tug of war with her! She is a small girl who would just love to be able to bury the bones you give her! They are used to dogs and walk right up to them, sometimes rubbing on them. That scared her and she barked and they hissed and growled. She is getting more used to them every day. She acts like the three resident dogs are not even there as she has not given them any attention at all. But a Great Pyrenees visited and she tried getting him to play with her. She has free roam of the house at all times, sometimes for nine hours. She has not had any accidents nor touched anything other than dog toys. She is not a velcro dog but she doesn't want to be outside unless you out there with her. Twitch is very afraid of storms, but her foster mom put her in bed with her under the dark covers and she went right to sleep. She is just a joy to have in our home.

He is medium energy but was an outside dog at his previous home and is trying to make up for not getting much attention. He should be placed in a home with at least two people as he wants lots of attention and therefore can share with more than one person. When his foster mom is ready to quit giving him attention she tells him to lay down and he settles down nicely. He should not be placed in a home with young children as he might knock them over when he gets excited. Biography: Update: Nala went to the rainbow bridge today. Nala had been an outdoor dog most of her life, and tethered for the past 9 months, so we didn't know what to expect on introducing her to indoor life. Not to worry! Nala is thrilled to be enjoying the air-conditioned comfort of her foster home. She promptly adopted the futon in the den as her favorite place to sack out. For sure, being an inside dog with canine and feline siblings definitely agrees with her! Her very full blond coat had to be clipped short due to heavy matting, but Nala seems to enjoy her new hairdo. She is a very affectionate girl who seems to be everybody's best friend and is not shy about coming up for pets. She knows "sit" and "down." Does not jump up on people. Nala also walks well on a leash and is a perfect angel on rides in the car. Nala may be a senior dog, but she still has plenty of spring in her step! She had her full check up last week, and Vet said that if she hadn't seen her slightly cloudy eyes, a sign of early cataracts, common in older dogs, she'd never have guessed Nala to be 12 1/2 years old! Actually, she is quite a character, and very smart. She loves to "help" her foster dad with gardening and yard work, and is doing her best to catch a resident mole out in the back yard. Go Nala! Update: One of those wish I had the camera incidents: the other day she tried to catch a very beautiful, large butterfly out in the back yard, and she nearly got him! Hilarious. She was jumping into the air and snapping to try and get him in her teeth. Then she stuck her head through the garden fence trying to snag him off a zinnia blossom. For the right person, Nala could bring much happiness into your life.

Biography: Update: Since little sister, Ginger, left for her forever home, Mya has grown into a confident, loving puppy. She's now a bit over 4 months old. Mya is high energy and really needs an active family that will happily walk her a couple of times a day. Mya weighs in at 37lbs now. Mya, a bit more shy around people than her little sister, has grown to 15 pounds at 10 weeks old. Mya is inquisitive, and will wander off or climb into places she shouldn't. Mya will need a yard with at least a 4ft fence and no objects that can be used as a ladder, or she'll escape. She loves snuggling on blankets and romping with her foster brothers, so she doesn't really want to escape...she just wants to follow her curiosity. Mya doesn't quite understand the notion of housetraining yet. She will run from her crate towards the backdoor, but if distracted by anything, she will stop to potty whereever she is. But that's okay. At 10 weeks old, its rare for a golden retriever to be housetrained. Mya is slower than Ginger at figuring stuff out. Using a child gate to keep the pups in the kitchen, Ginger will run around the house and go through an open door to bypass the gate, but Mya will just stop at the gate and cry. More pictures coming soon. Mya loves to chew. She will chew on anything, but her favorites are rawhide (good for the teething) and her stuffed toys. She will squeak the squeaker intentionally for a dozen minutes in a row before switching to another toy.

Biography: Chance is a handsome 2-1/2 year old male. He is very affectionate and quickly becomes everybody's best friend. Chance is good with older children but has too much energy for preschool children. Chance would probably do best as an only dog so he doesn't have to share his family's love and attention. He was rescued from a shelter in the Springfield area. One of Ben's littermates, a female, died from pneumonia while at this shelter. A kind-hearted Animal Control Officer in a nearby town rescued Ben and took him to the shelter where she worked. Ben also had pneumonia when he was rescued; but with good veterinary care, he was nursed back to health. Biography: Blitz is a 6-1/2 year old male, who has been through some rough times over the past few months. His beloved owner had to be placed in a nursing home. Blitz's 14 year old canine companion was euthanized due to bad hips that made it too painful for him to walk. Blitz's weight ballooned to 130 lbs., and he had to be totally shaved because his coat was so matted. Blitz seems to have recovered from these traumas and is once again a happy-go-lucky Golden boy. He is now 18 lbs. lighter and his coat is growing in nicely. It would be ideal if his adoptive family would help Blitz drop another 25 lbs. It's an easy diet, and cheap, too! He eats 3/4 cup of dog food with a handful of frozen green beans tossed in twice daily--no extra treats, please! Blitz loves to swim and go for walks. He likes to fetch tennis balls and chew on nylabones. He is great with children of all ages, knows basic commands, likes to shake your hand, and will give kisses. He gets along well with the other Goldens in his foster home and would probably get along with another mellow dog. However, a home with cats would be out of the question--Blitz detests them!
